About Batam

Batam is one of the largest islands in the Riau archipelago which it covers 3,990 km², of which 1,040 km² is land. The region consists of 3 main island; Batam Island, Rempang Island and Galang Island & several small islands spread across the Singapore and Malacca Strait. These 3 main islands are connected by Barelang Bridge which was built in 1997. Batam is also an heavy industrial town, an growing transportation hub and part of the Indonesia – Malaysia – Singapore Growth Triangle (SIJORI) free trade zone.

Batam has more than 1.2 million inhabitants, making it the third largest city in the Sumatra region, after Medan and Palembang. The island is very close to Straight of Malacca and directly bordered by Singapore (only 20 km South of Singapore) and Malaysia, making it one of the important international shipping lane in the region.

Best Time To Visit Batam Island

Batam has an tropical rainforest climate. The island lies between the cooler South China Sea regions and the warmer Southern Indonesia regions, with average temperatures between 23 and 31 °C. The island’s humidity varies from 73% to 96%. The rainy season extends November through April, while the dry season is May through October. Maximum rainfall is around 2600 mm per year. As such, the best time to visit Batam as per my opinion is during the dry season from May to Early October.
